# Why is my template read-only?

Common reasons a template can’t be edited.

## Symptom

You can open a template but can’t change it.

## Cause

- Your role is viewer - viewers are read-only by design.
- It’s a starter template, which is system content; copy it to edit.
- You’re viewing an immutable version rather than the editable draft.

## Resolution

- Ask a workspace admin for editor access if you need to make changes.
- For a starter, create a copy into your workspace, then edit the copy.
- To change content, edit the draft, not a snapshot version.
