# Why does my countdown not update in the inbox?

Understand static snapshots versus live countdown images in email.

## Symptom

The countdown shows the same numbers every time you open the email, or it looks frozen after send.

## Cause

Memo supports multiple countdown modes. A **static timer snapshot** captures the time remaining when the email HTML was generated - it will not tick forward after you send. A **live image** countdown refreshes when the recipient opens the message, but only when your plan, workspace settings, and the recipient’s client allow the image to load.

- The block is set to static snapshot or deadline banner (not live image).
- Images are blocked or cached aggressively in the recipient client.
- The deadline or timezone was configured incorrectly.

## Resolution

1. Open the countdown block and confirm the mode matches your intent.
2. For a ticking timer after send, switch to live image mode if your plan includes it.
3. Double-check the end date, time, and timezone against your offer terms.
4. Re-export or create a new version after changing the block.

> Even live images depend on the recipient loading remote images. Always pair urgency copy with a clear call-to-action and accurate deadline text.
