# How do I resolve an unresolved variable?

Fix a merge variable that has no value.

## Symptom

Preflight flags a variable that has no value, or a placeholder would ship.

## Cause

An unresolved variable is a merge field with no matching value in your preview dataset, or a field outside the supported variable catalog. Memo blocks it so a raw placeholder never reaches a recipient.

## Resolution

- Use a variable from the supported catalog.
- Provide a value in your workspace preview dataset.
- Remove the variable if it isn’t needed.
