# Create your first template

Start a template from blank or from a starter, and name it.

**Who this is for:** Editors creating new email designs.

A **template** is a reusable email design that lives in your workspace library. You can start blank or from a starter campaign.

1. **Open your template library** - Go to Templates in your workspace.
2. **Choose a starting point** - Create a blank template, or pick one from the read-only starter library to copy into your workspace.
3. **Name and organize it** - Give it a clear name and, optionally, place it in a folder.
4. **Open the editor** - Start composing on the canvas.

> Starter templates are read-only system content. Selecting one creates an independent copy in your workspace - your edits never affect the original.

## Expected result

A new template exists in your workspace, ready to edit.

## Common mistakes & troubleshooting

- If a template looks read-only, you may be a viewer or it may be a starter - see [Why is my template read-only?](https://memo.ly/help/why-is-my-template-read-only.md).
