# Template Libraries vs One-Off Campaigns: How to Organize Email Work

Stop duplicating campaigns. Organize template libraries, Brand Kits, and blocks so new sends start from structure - not from whichever email performed last quarter.

*Guide · 7 min read · Updated 2026-07-31*

One-off campaigns are fine. One-off *process* is not - when every launch starts by duplicating whichever email was fastest last time, libraries become archaeology.

## Libraries hold starting points

A template library stores approved starting layouts - newsletter, launch, lifecycle - not every historical send. See [Work with template libraries](https://memo.ly/docs/work-with-template-libraries.md).

## Brand Kits hold visual rules

Colors, type, footer - one source. Templates apply the kit; they do not re-define hex values inline.

## Blocks hold repeating patterns

Hero, product row, sign-off - blocks differ from whole templates. Use both, but do not store the same structure twice.

> Example (fictional): Apple (sample brand) keeps eight library templates and six blocks. New campaigns pick a library entry, not last month’s shipped file.

## FAQ

### How many library templates do I need?

Enough to cover real starting intents - often single digits - not every campaign you ever sent.

### Templates vs blocks?

Templates are full starting layouts. Blocks are fragments you insert into a document.

### Should I delete old campaigns?

Archive shipped work. Do not use shipped campaigns as your library.

### How do libraries relate to approval?

Library templates can be draft until approved versions exist for production use - same version rules as one-offs.
